The Recreation: The Art of Fishing

Go fishing in first person, the slow way, then the hard way. Thread your line, pick a bait, cast into the current and wait for the bobber to dip. Set the hook, then click fast: 10 clicks within 10 seconds reel the fish in, or it gets away.

Catch fish on five islands, from crabs at the lighthouse to the Bowhead Whale in the volcano. Sell nothing: catches pay out on the spot. Spend the money on Hot Dog, Beginner, Standard, Professional and Scientific lures, and on the boss bait each island needs. Land its boss to unlock the next island.

How to play

• Walk: drag the joystick at the bottom left (or W, A, D and X) to walk the dock and the island sand.
• Look: drag (or arrow keys) to look around the sea and islands.
• Clams: walk up to a clam on the sand and tap Eat clam to dig it up and eat it.
• Rig: tap, click or press Space to thread the 10-lb line.
• Bait: pick a bait from the bar at the bottom (or keys 1-7). Higher lures catch more valuable fish.
• Cast: hold to charge, release to throw. Landing in the current makes a bite come sooner.
• Wait: watch the bobber. Esc reels in and keeps your bait.
• Strike: press as soon as the bobber plunges.
• Fight: click (or press Space) 10 times within 10 seconds to land the fish. Slower than that and it gets away.

Keys: Space (main action), 1-7 (bait), S (shop), Q/E (change island), W/A/D/X (walk), arrows (look), Esc (reel in).

What is not in this build

Walking is limited to the dock and the sand of the island you are on; you cannot walk between islands. Underwater views are not in this build.

Cooking, dynamite, trick-shot combat, Drip variants and the Goblin Shark and Mutated Bowhead bosses are not in this build. Progress is not saved between visits.
