About Escape to the Empire
New York City, 202X. A prisoner on Rikers Island dreams every night of a sun rising over the water, and of running toward it. Then he wakes up, the prison has exploded, and every cell door is open.
A dropped radio says a portal device sits at the top of a tower in the Financial District. Step through, and you're in The Empire, where nobody can touch you.
An NES-style first-person gallery shooter with chiptune music: the city scrolls past as you fight across 8 stages, from Rikers Island through Queens, Brooklyn, Midtown, the Flatiron District, SoHo and Tribeca to FiDi.
- Prison guards, police officers, SWAT, gun drones and robot police
- Glock with infinite ammo; shoot floating crates for a shotgun, M4 or minigun, and switch between them with 1-4 (each keeps its ammo)
- Grenades that blow up everything on screen
- Headshots, explosive barrels, and enemy grenades and rockets you can shoot out of the air
- A tough boss at the end of every stage, from the riot captain to the Sentinel mech guarding the portal
