A first-person horror escape through a sixteen-room house at 3:14 AM. Mara wakes with Eli asleep beside her and a masked man walking their rooms. Her phone is locked and the four-digit PIN — like every code in the house — is different every night, taped to the bedroom mirror. Unlock it and sixteen cameras show which room he is standing in. Twenty-two hiding places to fold into, and Backspace gets you out the second you want — while hidden, the game listens to your real microphone, so a sound in your own room gives you away. You are never unarmed: your bare hands always throw a punch, and six weapons beat them — a glass shard at arm's length, a rock, a knife, a bat that reaches nearly three metres, six revolver shots, and a taser that barely hurts him but drops him for ten seconds. Bare hands are yours alone; they cannot be traded away. Wake Eli and order him around — follow, hold, go for him, hide, run for the door, hunt down a weapon of his own, or fight the fire — and every order actually moves him. In online multiplayer that order panel becomes a text box, so you and the friend walking Eli can talk. Two ways to play: Deadbolt is the house and the man; Deadbolt: Inferno also sets the house alight, eating it one room at a time until it reaches the front door — but in Inferno you and Eli can fill up at any bathroom or kitchen sink or shower (which is loud) and throw water to save a room for good. Bolt any door with the skeleton key, charge the phone in every room, and open one of five online lobbies to let a friend play Eli.
